I have read some posts that talk about some implements not fitting the BX such as posthole diggers. I will be purchasing a box blade and possibly a tiller later. The manual recommends a 42" box blade. Can you buy any box blade that width and expect it to hitch-up or do you have to use something specially sized for sub-compacts?

Any box blade that size will be for that class of tractor.
If you shop carefully you can find regular implements that fit the BX. The key is to make sure that the attachment points on the implement are closer to the ground.
In general terms that means the box scraper will be shallower than most and a rear blade will only have a 12 inch deep blade and a shorter overall stature so that it doesn't challenge the limited height your 3 point can achieve.
Rankin sells a whole line of scaled down stuff for your tractor.
Click on Vendors, drop down to Taylor-Way and find Series 100. ....

We sell 48" box scrapers and grader blades behind BX's all the time. We also sell a 40" kubota tiller to go behind them also and they work great. We also are receiving today a posthole digger that will be low profile for the BX. If you are interested let me know 270-737-8118 ....

Subsequent to the last time we talked about this sub-CUT topic I spoke to an owner of a BX (at my dealer) who found a very good solution.
He had a frame made up which looks very much like a grill guard, in fact he says that's where he got the idea. The frame has 3pth mounts in the proper location & spacing for a BX, but then also has holes & pins that slip through them which conform to 'standard' Cat. 1 dimensions. The center of the frame is open so driveshafts pass through unaffected.
This allows him to use the existing Cat. 1 implements he already owns with his new BX and the one adaptor works with all of them. It does add a little weight but not enough to serious affect anything. Clever idea I thought.

I keep a 48" box blade on my BX1500 all the time, for ballast. I'd definitely recommend a 48 over a 42". No problems at all. (I did have to shorten my top link by 2" however).

Standard moldboard heights are too deep for the BX series. King Kutter has a XB line of implements that work really well. They aren't catagory 0 implements like you might find with short moldboard implements. They are catagory 1 but have the shorter moldboards to fit the sub-compacts. Don't look on their website, they aren't there. Tractor Supply carries them, and others. I had a sub-compact for a while. I fabricated longer lift arms for implements that required more lift height. Arms are simple to fabricate, ends are available at many tractor stores and through Northern Tool. Be careful of your warranty and lift capacities whenever you modify the 3-point in any way, even with an adapter frame. ....

woods makes an entire series just for the Kubota bx series. To deal with its low 3pt lift height. They also built a loader for it. There the same quality as the big stuff, just scaled down alittle. ....

I also encountered the lift height issue with my BX but found a simple solution. Buy a right-side lift rod assembly (adjustable length with a turnbuckle, about $22.50) and replace the fixed length left-side lifting rod with it. You can now adjust the length of the lifting rods on BOTH sides. BUT BE CAREFUL... it is possible to make them too short, in which case they will hit the PTO guard. Shorten them a little at a time lifting the 3-point to the max between adjustments to acheive the max height. I was able to make a full-size (not BX series) 5' king kutter scraper blade work quite nicely with this setup. ....
